    C:\Extend\$ObjId is corrupt?

Hi, I'm running Windows XP and have a recent problem. When I load up the computer it tells me to check the disk, when I let it do this it just repeats the same thing ad infinitum - 'inserting insert into entry $0...' or something, it doesn't stop doing this until I turn the computer off, checkdisk never gets anywhere.

If I cancel the checkdisk Windows loads normally, but then I get the small yellow windows bottom right telling me that: 'randomprogram.exe... (this is usually ZLClient.exe, Teatimer.exe or simply 'Windows - Corrupt File') ....C:\$Extend\$ObjId is corrupt and unreadable please run Chkdsk'

These problems have occurred since I installed Zone Alarm Security Suite a few days ago.

    Any ideas?

Zone Alarm Anti-Virus and Spybot are clean.

Checkdisk can take a long time to run through completely if there are a lot of File Allocation Table (FAT) errors or physical faults on the hard disk. Are you leaving it to run for more than a couple of hours?

Incidentally, ZLClient.exe is a Zone Labs application and Teatimer.exe is the background scanner for Spybot. Errors in these files probably appear first because they are background utilities that load as soon as Windows is logged in.

My first instinct is that you have a faulty hard disk or a faulty hard disk controller on the motherboard. You ought to let Checkdisk have a really good go at fixing it though before you start replacing hardware.
