The old "Access is denied" problem again
Hi Folks,
A friend of mine has just tried to move a hard disc which he used for video from one PC to another.
It was the second hard drive on the original PC which was running XP Pro and he uninstalled it and moved it to the new PC which is running XP Home.
The system recognises it OK and it appears in windows explorer with the correct size etc. but when he tries to access any file or folder it says "Access is denied" etc.
He also gets this message if he tries to delete anything?
I've tried looking at the sharing settings but these seem ok.
I've heard of this before but can't remember the solution.
I'd like to understand this and help him sort it out as I'm about to do the same thing myself!!
What's the fix please or how can it be avoided in the first place?
Best Regards.

You might have already done this simple step, but I say it anyway.
Right click on the new drive, click property, click hardware, click property. Make sure "enable" is on, and the window shows "this device working properly.

That's all OK, in fact the drive is working perfectly for new files and folders, it's only those which were created in the old PC which are inaccesible.
Regards.

This should help:

Note the distinctions that apply to XP Home.
