Hi Folks,
I'm just about to buy a new pc which has 2x250GB SATA HDs in a RAID 0 array (i.e. striped discs for speed of access).
I would like to be able to partition these drives using Partition Magic 8.1 which I have used many times on my current PC and it's great as it works mainly from within Windows.
However, when you repartition the system disc it does what it can in Windows, then goes into DOS to finish off and I have read somewhere that this does not work with RAID systems because the RAID drivers are not available in DOS.
I'd like to understand this before trying it and finding it doesn't work, or worse still ****ering up the system.
Any experts?

Thanks for the link on RAID but I'm fully up to speed on the various versions of RAID and what they are used to achieve, my problem is finding a partitioning tool that works like PM8 so I don't have to re-install the operating system just to partition the current system disc. (Or if someone can tell me how to make the RAID drivers available to PM8 in DOS mode.)

Download UBCD and you should be able to partition with the abundant tools available on it.

If not a certain free way is to download GNOME Parted or download a Live CD/Desktop distro of Linux, i.e. Ubuntu 6.06 LTS. It'll be an ISO image file that you burn onto a CD. After a successful burn and rebooting from the CD, you'll be running Linux on your system, but it won't be installed -- instead it'll be using your RAM to run. On it you'll find GParted -- a partioning tool that will let you resize/delete/combine your partitions while running the system in a matter of moments.

Shan, that's certainly a LOT of information and it looks very relevant to RAID 0 and new DELL PCs.
