Exclamation Very Urgent! Sudden Drop In PC Speed!

    Hey all,

I just got this problem last night. Everything was fine one moment and the next time I used my computer, everything started to slow down loads. I first noticed when my windows media player started to stutter.

So I turned off my startup programs but it all still was the same. So I checked my task manager..and lo behold I found that iexplore.exe was running at about 75000k of mem, msnmsgr.exe running at about 83000k of mem, explorer.exe running at bout 80000k mem...and if I ran windows media player, it would be around those figures as well. It's not just those - all the other side programs which usually take up a small bit of memory suddenly takes up between 5000-20000k of mem. Suddenly since last night.

I tried virus scanning but got negative results. I have at least 10-20gb free space on each drive (i have 2). Both drives are well defragged. Um...what's making all the apps take up so much memory and suddenly? I don't remember installing a new application in the past few days...

    Needing help,
    YiChung

Try a System Restore to a point prior to the problem:

start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore

Well, funny thing is when I run system restore, the only restore point I have is today. I tried moving back to the previous months and it just doesn't move - it sticks at January.

I check the handles, GDI, etc and none of them exceed 2000. The memory and Virtual Memory usage is still relatively high though. And I tried going to CMOS and putting all settings on default and restarting. Tried cleaning my registry to no avail. Virus scan shows nothing.

I'm lost...and hopefully I don't have to reformat my pc. Hopefully.
