PC Completely Dead
Medion MD 8800 PC
MSI 745P motherboard
Win XP SP2
My PC is completely dead - on power up nothing happens, except that the "power on" indicator on the case works & the fans run ok, both in the machine & on the psu.
Circumstances are that I wanted to change one of my DVD drives & disconnected its power & data cables, but found that there was not enough room to slide it out - so I gave up on this
idea & re-connected the cables.
From this point on BOTH DVD drives were apparently dead & would not power up - the system would not see them. Everything else on the PC worked ok.
Thinking that the PSU had developed a problem I got another PSU but found that it did not have the right power connector for the graphics card, so I re-installed the original PSU.
Now I have nothing - the PSU powers up ok & again the internal fans etc work ok - but there is absolutely nothing else.
I have had a multimeter check some of the power connectors including DVD drives & the graphics card & they seem to be ok - voltage is 12v & 5v - seems that power is getting to the mainboard, but nothing coming out.
Is it a case for resetting the CMOS?
If so, is there anything that needs to be done after the reset?
