Its completely the opposite -- a known system destroyer. All your logs even the last one indicates the same thing. Remember its the driver that is causing the problem. Drivers exist for running software and hardware and is what they depend on.
Its not a case of switching it off as the driver still exists. Its a case of removing it and the driver from its location. Yes theres a security hole, and for that download AVG free or Avast! anti-virus to cover the AV side of things. Update them straight away after installing. They are much much better overall. If I turn off all the Norton products/services won't I be vulnerable to viruses, spyware, fraud, etc. that are a common problem with internet?
Your system is saying that clearly and repeatedly. Norton is known to be an abysmal software design. Only a few are lucky enough to escape problems with it. Most users "wisen up" after endless problems and stick with better AV's. At the end of the day we learn from others experiences and mistakes. The net is absolutely full of Norton disasters causing even the most experienced to have a system that cannot start unless they do a complete format and loose everything to start over again. Once your system becomes corrupt, there is no turning back for you. For average users the hassle it creates and its interference in everything that has nothing to do with it is worse. Why will Symantec/Norton software cause a memory dump/blue screen when using the cd drive? (and that is sporadic) I have not had a dump problem with any other use of the computer after loading Norton as a protection software service.
I have done that stage about 10 months back too. Its not the first time and it wont be the last either that Norton causes a system and other software to stop functioning.
