hi does anyone know if norton is good virus protection?
Because i have had like 6 computers that have broke down because of viruses. And now i was getting a new computer now and i am not going to crash this one. Is norton a good protection, do you recommend some other virus protection? like P-cillin or something? and i live in iceland if that matters.. Thanks.
Hi
A cursory search of the net will inform you to stay damn clear of Norton! Yes, its that bad for a system.
Norton is reknown to cause system interference and instability - messing up foundation level resources, controlling them, and destroying OS's. That's the reason its hated by techs frankly, as many system erratic behaviors are caused by it.
In security terms, its supposed to be very efficient actually.
Anything other will be decent paid and unpaid.

You can find their comprehensive review here: http://anti-virus-software-review.toptenreviews.com/
Personally I use avast! (free) and a few other utilities side by side as is needed. The best article and guide for you can be found right here by professional security analysts: http://www.d-a-l.com/help/showthread.php?t=605
Go to the "Preventing it returning.." section specifically. For an AV, Avast! and AVG are both what many users use and work perfect for them.
thank you wery much.. Kazna3!! i'll do that =)
Maybe those that are not savvy would say that.
Nothing wrong with Norton, works fine, never let me down in over 15 years.
do you have to pay for norton?.. it was in my computer when i got it and it will work for 3 months ... if/when i have to expand the time do i have to pay or?
well thanks for replaying ! I'll try to help you if you have some problems=*
Do a serach on the net - 99% forums and techs go against it. Actually why not ask in the Security section and you'll see what pro analysts say. Majority of user problems are caused by installing and running Norton. Its not personal preference, but a fact. This is well established. I've also used Norton 4 years before march 2006. But its what works best for a simple user and will pause least hassle that is recommended.
but there is this one thing about norton that's a problem. The firewall cant be on if the norton is on =/ or thats how it seems at least
If you ever speak to anyone educated in system security, an educated enthusiast, someone running a forum or a technician who deals with computers day in day out you'll see what most (through experience) have to say about Norton. Just try to uninstall it after its installed and see how much flaws and hassle is caused (unless you get 3rd party tools made to totally rid it from your system). I can only advise you as I have done, not to go anywhere near it. Only a lucky few ever get it working stable and securely not affecting their system adversley. Then most will run back and forth in aghast with problems wasting their own aswell as others time and resources, as well as damaging their system by trying to fix a problem Norton caused.
I can't even begin with going through its problems. Sorry that'll take pages.
Avast! and AVG are just as good as any one of them and better than Norton in terms of total usage and the fact that they're free. Norton because of its nefarious build quality lets slip some viruses confusing the user as to what to do and how it got there. Worse dealing with the problem.
