USB Memory Stick

    USB Memory Stick

Hi I hope this is in the right place.

My Kingston USB stick works fine in all PC's apart from mine. I have tried it in my spare pc and is fine.

On my pc it will only work through my USB Hub. As soon as I plug it directly in to a USB port on my Motherboard or the front of the PC, it freezes, becomes very slow or just stops working.

Can anyone help me solve this problem? It is driving me mad.

    Thanks

    Dave

    Hi

Go to Abit site and look for the latest motherboard USB drivers. Uninstall the previous ones and install them in.

See if that relieves the issue. It looks most likely to be a conflict issue.

I downloaded the newest chipset drivers for my mobo, uninstalled the old one and installed the new one, however the problem still exists.

Any other ideas would be appreciated.

    Hi

Can you download this utility please: DriverGuide Toolkit

After running it it will amass for you all the drivers you have installed. Make a note of them and look for any unsigned or unverified, even flagged drivers there. Note and post them back.

Also, can you run the USB again where it usually freezes. Then navigate over to Event Viewer (Start>Run>type: eventvwr.msc and hit enter). Look under "Application" and "System" for any errors/warnings/info listed around that time -- if you find any, double-click them and note the information given in the opening window. Post them back.

At the same time, also check under Start>Run>type: devmgmt.msc and hit enter. Check under "USB controller", double-click everything opening under this and look for the device status (enabled/disabled/working condition) and under "Resources" check for any conflict mentioned.

Is this a new problem .. sudden? Did you change anything that you know, any software addition any hardware addition or uninstallation? Has it ever worked well?

Problem Exists even if I unplug this device.

Could find no errors listed around the time I had the problems.

I checked the Resources tab of each controller and are as follows:

    I/O Range IRQ

    BC00-BC1F 16
    B000-B01F 19
    B400-B41F 18
    B800-B81F 16
    USB2 CTR FC000000-FC0003FF 23

Could having 2 controllers using the same IRQ be a problem?

I installed MCE about a month ago. But I had the problem on my previous install of XP Pro.
