    Wireless Nightmare, any solution?

I play many online games using my wireless connection. Lets use Warcraft3 (Dota) as an example. I often get frozen due to a mass lag or temporary disconnection. It bothers me alot because I cannot play the game peacefully.

Question 1: Why/what/how is causing the connection to act in such way?

Question 2: Is there a solution to solve this problem?

    Thank you!

Question 1: Why/what/how is causing the connection to act in such way?

This could be caused by many things, if you are on DSL, your phone line could be faulty (or not up to broadband standards)

    it could be a firewall

do you have an extension plugged into your phone line going to your router?

the router may not be configured properly (your ISP should be able to help you with some specific settings)

do you get this problem when playing these games offline?

go to http://www.internetfrog.com/mypc/speedtest/ and see what speed it says you are getting

do you have a normal ethernet modem you can try?

it could even be your ISP

Question 2: Is there a solution to solve this problem?

That depends on the cause of the problem but probably, yes

    I agree with the firewall

I had a lag lock up during gameplay the other day, I have norton installed but for some reason norton firewall was switched on along with windows firewall, as soon as I switched off norton firewall everything went back to normal.

I personally would not use norton, it uses alot of system resources and can cause all sorts of problems... i would use a free a/v such as avast or AVG and a free firewall such as Kerio

i use AVG anti virus and McAfee firewall because it is free with AOL

Hi. I use AVG also and I use windows defaul Firewall
I dont' have extensions of phone line to my router.
I don't know if my router is configured properly but it does work properly for the non-wireless computer (that I have).
If you can tell me what to fix that will be so appreciated and thanks a lot for your replies

    ok, just to clarify:

you experience this problem with the wireless computer, but not the wired?

how far away is the wireless computer?

what is the signal strength like? (can be found in the system tray by clicking on the wireles network icon)

on the wireless PC, do you experience problems with offline games?

    sorry for all the questions!
    Mike

    Hello

    1. The signal is "Excellent" (Always) My wireless comp is 3 meters away from my router.
    2. I don't experience that problem when playing offline games.

Thanks for your concern and waiting for your reply

this is kinda off topic, but i have avast, but i dont like it too much. I use windows defender. its free for now if you have a legal copy of XP and detects more viruses than avast or mcaffe did. i would get it.
