Can't delete files from 'My Music'

For some reason I cannot delete music from 'My Music' file, when I try it says:

"Cannot delete... :Access is denied. Make sure that the disk is not full or write-protected and that the file is not currently in use"

Any one able to shed some light? I am the computers admin!

    Thanks

    Hi

Are you the Admin account holder or does yours have Admin privileges?

Try through one that does if not so.

Also go to Start>Run>type: chkdsk /f /r and hit enter.

Agree to the prompt, restart and it'll run a long checkup that may look like its not working but it will. Meanwhile do whatever you need to elsewhere and keep checking up for when it logs into Windows like usual. Once it does, give deleting them another try.

have you tried rebooting the machine and trying to delete them then or deleted them in safe mode?

OK, I tried this and it didn't work. I am the only account on my laptop so I'm guessing I should be the admin! Will try the safe mode suggestion and let you know!

I was thinking could it have something to do with my iTunes? (I'm not sure what though!)

Have a try in Safe Mode and then we'll try a few more suggestions.

If safe mode doesn't work for you try MoveOnBoot This free software will allow you to delete any file on restart before Windows loads. HTH

Right I went into safe mode and there were two log in boxes, one for my desktop and the other said 'administrator' not sure if this is normal, I thought I was the administrator. Anyway, I went into both and still couldn't delete music. Could it have anything to do with the fact it is in my shared documents?

Is your laptop on a network?

Do you have any file sharing software running?

Have you tried deleting through windows media player?

I think your files are on bad sectors and thats causing this error. These issues can be a real pain. I can instruct you how to delete them through command line, but MoveonBoot was better than that and it never worked.

    Use this utility: WhoLockMe

Navigate to the files and choose them so they will be unlocked and then you can delete them. They are usually not deletable if you're not Admin, you've placed restrictions on it, a bad drive or if they're in use.

Wholockme will inform you if any software has the files open and thus locked denying you access. Run it in SafeMode and don't open any media application by making sure its not running in the background (Ctrl+Alt+Del, find it and "end process" under Processes tab)

    See how that goes.
