    changing file properties

okay, havent been here due to sickness and all, wow big change in layout.

okay okay, straight to the point hmm? i used to be able to change file properties of files, for example... a ".wmv" file, i'd just rename and add a ".mpg" at the back, and it would be recognised as a ".mpg" file by Windows and stuff you know? instead of a ".wmv".

usually of course, like wmv and mpg doesnt really matter, but certain files i've had like... ".mpc" music files and such, arent really recognised by certain programs so i used to rename them to ".mp3". specially since i do not have the converter nor the time to convert all of them.

but... after i reformatted my com when i got my 1GB mem stick. cant seem to do that. when i add the ".xxx" extension at the back, it doesnt change a thing. it just makes the name longer. any idea how to remedy this?

    thanks in advance.

If you are looking for a converter I recommend DBPower Amp Conversion is very fast and the program is 100 % free. Let us know if this isn't what you were looking for. Take care and be well.

thanks for the really fast reply, but no it's not what i'm looking for. what i meant was, i can change the way windows xp recognise the file types by simply adding a ".xxx" extension behind the name of the file.

for example, "Reason.mpc" can't be recognised by windows and can't be autoplayed and such, but all i have to do is add a ".mp3", instead of being "Reason.mp3.mpc" it'll automatically change into "Reason.mp3", an mp3 file.

now though i can't do that anymore. it'll just become "Reason.mp3" as the name, but still an ".mpc" file.

erm... hope i'm clear enough. thanks again

edit: found out how to do it. just in case anyone will need to know in the future...

Folder Options > View> untick "Hide Extensions For Known File Types"> Apply.

after that you can just rename the extension of your file and change the way WinXP reads it. sometimes might render file unusable tho so be careful.
