    PC Hanging on startup

    hi,

I recently formatted, reinstalled everything and all works fine, however when I power up the pc, it displays the video info as normal, beeps and reports the processor, then hangs (presumably testing memory) for about a minute, then displays the usual info before windows starts up.

Any idea what maybe causing the hang, I've cleared bios, the bios is the latest version, both the cpu and memory are secure in place, it's just annoying that its suddenly happened.

    Cheers in advance.

Check your BIOS Boot Menu for an option such as Quick Boot.

You could try Bootvis This tool will allow you to optimize Windows XP bootups.

    hi jephree,

Yes quick boot is enabled, was one of the first things I checked, bear I'll have a look at bootvis but is that more to do with xp operationg system rather than BIOS...?

Thank you both for your replies

Edit : Used bootvis - no difference

    Sorted it,

I have an external USB 4 port hub which somehow wasnt picked up by xp, I discovered the prob when I tried to install my printer (which is connected to it). I unplugged the power to it and re plugged, windows had a fit with allsorts getting installed, and hey presto...no more hangups when switching on

Thanks for your input guys, much appreciated
