my girlfriend has a dell laptop running xp home. The trouble is that when trying to type she has to press down whatever key she is using on the keyboard for about 5 seconds or more before the letter appears on the screen.

Does it behave the same with battery as well as AC adapter?

Is this a new problem?

If so and you do not suspect a bad battery try a System Restore to a point prior to the problem.

start > All Programs > System Tools > System Restore

not sure if it is the same with battery as its always used from the mains, i'll have to contact her about that. yes it is a new problem. will tell her to try the system restore and let you know what happens.
