    IE Browser URL Box the number 2 inputs as string automatically no key strokes?

    When I begin the boot sequence in Windows XP on my HP Pavilion zv6000, in the password box the number 2 just automatically pops in and creates a string of 2's through the whole box. I did a system restore that seemed to fix the problem but one day later the same problem surfaced again though not as bad. Could this be a virus emulating a stuck number 2 key or something else. Does anybody know anything about this problem and how to solve it.
    Thanx,

    Are you saying this happens in all boxes?

    For example you say in the password box logging in to XP?

    But you also say IE Browser URL Box?

    Can you use your #2 key normally otherwise?

    Yes, it happens whenever I'm using the mouse pointer to input anything such as typing in text for emails, typing in url names, etc. I thought my Logitech wireless mouse might be at fault so I reset it before I did anything else. I can use the #2 key but the 2s kept appearing. Right now it's not happening. Thanx for your concern. what do you think?

    Although it sounds like a mouse issue you might try this anyway:

    Turning off AutoComplete completely
    If you don't like seeing your user names, passwords, and other information sitting in drop-down windows, tell Windows to stop by doing this:

    1. Open Internet Explorer.
    2. Choose Internet Options from the Tools menu.
    3. Click the Content tab.
    4. Click the AutoComplete button.
    5. Click to remove checkmarks from these items:

    * Web addresses
    * Forms
    * User names and passwords on forms
    * Prompt me to save passwords

    6. Click the Clear Forms button.
    7. Click the Clear Passwords button.
    8. Click OK.

    Deleting old entries from the Search Companion
    But you're not through yet. Windows XP's Search Companion also includes an AutoComplete feature, so it can remember every file and phrase you've searched for. Here's how to turn it off, as well:

    1. Choose Search from the Start menu.
    2. Choose Change Preferences.
    3. Choose Turn AutoComplete off.

    I'm on my way home and I will jump on this immediately. Though this problem seems to be gone now after I did a system restore. I'll still proceed with your instructions anyway.
