    Internet Explorer not loading

    Hi.

I have two accounts on my laptop, which runs on Windows XP. I use one of the accounts almost every day, and the other has not been used for months. Yesterday, Internet Explorer continually failed to load on the main account, but it still works fine on the back-up account. Outlook Express would also not load and despite having opened today, it crashes after one or two e-mails are received.

I have no idea what could have caused this sudden change and I would really appreciate it if someone could please help me to fix the problem.

I did defragment my system yesterday, but this was after the problem arose, and it did nothing to solve it.

    Thank you.

    Cathy

You could try a System Restore to a point prior to the problem.

start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore

Or you could create a new account and transfer your data as seen here:

    Okay, thanks for your help.

It was really weird as everything worked fine later on yesterday, but isn't working again today.

    Hi.

I tried a System Restore and it didn't solve the problem, and as I really don't want to have to create a new account, I was wondering if someone could please perhaps suggest another method that may get things working again.

    Thank you.

Please keep us posted on the outcome. If this doesn't resolve the problem we can look for other solutions. Have a great weekend

    Hi.

I still haven't solved the problem. Can you think of any more possible solutions? I uninstalled my anti-virus software, as Outlook Express used to freeze when the e-mail scanner was running, but now OE won't even open at all.

By the way, things like Control Panel and the Recycle Bin also won't open, but Microsoft Word will.

A Repair Install of XP might be in order here. Here is a good guide if you have a Microsoft XP CD:

    http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/XP...install.htm#RI

If your computer came with XP pre-installed (OEM) then consult your manual for Repair options. Perhaps described as a "Non-Destructive" recovery.

This process retains you data and programs while reloading all the XP files anew.
