    I would suggest opening up the easy parts first and just making sure that all the connections are firm. The RAM should be an easy check. Also the hard drive if it is removable. The battery as well.

    Sorry if I asked this already but is there any difference when using the battery as compared to the AC adapter?
    i do have a copy of the manual in pdf format as well also i have checked the memory and also the battery as i have bought another battery due to thinking this may be the problem.

    if it is a faulty motherboard will the warranty cover it?

    I would doubt that there is a warranty after 2 years but I am not certain.

    Again I am having no luck getting the Fujitsu-Siemens site to work for me but they do have a Warranty section.

    Before you think about returning it you might try reinstalling XP but I still think it is a hardware problem.
