    Advice wanted on video players

When I installed my new graphics card I was advised to uninstall my old one, which I did. Now I find I can't view all of my video sources such as this one:

Clearly I am inexperienced in such matters but I would appreciate any help offered! Some players work, some don't - but I cannot tell which player is used for this example.

try re-installing windows media player, what internet browser do you use?

can you watch video files which are stored on your computer (not the internet)?

Thank you Mike. I reinstalled Windows Media Player but it made no difference. There is sound but no video. I can't watch DVD either, whereas I could do before. I have no stored video. What do you think would happen if I used System Restore to yesterday? Would it install the original drivers and would it affect the new drivers installed today from the new card? Or could I ask someone to email the original driver file to me?

have you always had this problem with this graphics card?

what is the make + model of the new card?

i was going to sugest that you re-install your browser and install wmp plugins but as you cannot watch DVD's, it dows not sound like this is a problem with your browser.

    Mike:

I have had no problems before. What has happened is this: my old graphics card is still in situ but its drivers have been disabled. I haven't a clue what make it is as it was fitted by a small firm who built my PC for me. Maybe if I look for it I might see its name somewhere, unless there is some detail somewhere in Windows. My new card is a GeForce 7600GS. When I first boot up my PC I get a message at desktop stating that 'SLI Multi-rendering has been disabled' and that I should install another card for optimum performance. Well, the card is there but where can I get the drivers from?

I do thank you for your patience and I appreciate your advice. I will be signing off now until tomorrow when I will log in again to your forum.

    Thanks again and goodnight!

One final thought for today - this is a big learning curve for me and I think I am gradually making headway. Hopefully! The original graphics control is part of the motherboard assembly and not on a separate card.

    I'll be back tomorrow.

    Hi Dave,

did you get a driver disk with your graphics card?

if so, i would re-install the driver

There was no driver disk with the original on board graphics controller. Since I uninstalled the drivers, nothing is connected to that now. The new card is working fine but will not display video in Windows Media Player.

Thanks for the link but having looked there I don't know what I am looking for!!

    Cheers for now,

    Dave

Mike! Hold everything, I have found the original ASRock AMD-VIA motherboard support CD! It has the following drivers:

    VIA 4 in 1 Drivers

    VIA PCI 10/100M Lan Drivers

    C-Media Audio Driver & Application

    VIA USB 2.0 Driver

VIA Serial ATA Driver & Utility

    K8 CPU Drivers

Can you say which it is likely to be that I need to install?

    Thanks,

    Dave
