    Any BackUP software?

I am looking for a software which can do this:

One of my system file corrupts, and I cannot get into the Windows XP. Therefore, I must restore the whole system, but before I want to take out some important files out. So, I take out the hard drive and connect to another computer, making it as Slave. I get into the XP using the other computer and try to open the Slave hard drive (the damaged one) But whenever I access to My Document, it always appear to be Access Denied, and it shows 0 folders inside My Document. I alwasy have to go to a Store to let them back the files up for me, and it cost me 99 dollars everytime.

Any software about backup/recovery which can break the access of the My Document so I can back up the files by myself? Thank YOU

    Hi

You didn't need to pay for backup. Its simply a Windows configuration.

Here's how to override it: Take Ownership of the file/folder as described below.

HOW TO: Take Ownership of a File or Folder in Windows XP:
    http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=308421

HOW TO: Set, View, Change, or Remove File and Folder Permissions in Windows XP
    http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;308418

Note: If you cannot see the "Security" tab, then you will have to go to Explorer>Tools>Folder Options>View and untick "Simple File Sharing", apply and now you should get that tab in XP Pro!

For XP Home, you will have to boot into SafeMode and login as "Administrator" to access the "Security" tab, because in XP Home this tab will not be visible to standard users.

    ---------------

On a side note, you should always maintain a backup elsewhere. Use something like XXClone and it will "clone" your HDD onto another partition or HDD to have another fully bootable OS if teh first fails.

    Hi, Kazna

Thank you for the help, but I have soem problems here, I went into the first address you gave me and follow the instruction on how to take ownership of a folder. there is a step where it says after clicking on "properties":

    2. Click the Security tab, and then click OK on the Security message (if one appears).

But in the properties window of any of my folder, there is no "Security" tab. This is what it shows me:

and I don't know if the "Sharing" tab is what equal to "Security tab":

Please check and tell me, thank you very much again and merry xmas!

    sorry for beeing late.
I use True Image backup utility. U can backup to any removable disk any file.
This app also has clone disk feature.
so use that the latest version(10_th) for ~45$ or download free 7_th version (if u are still looking for it) http://www.acronis.com/mag/vnu-ati7
