Tried to download windows svc pak 2 and cpu won't restart
To make a long story short a couple weeks ago i noticed that i didn't have the updated windows service pack 2 installed. i started going through the install and at a certain point into it my wife turned off the cpu by mistake. this was during the process where the install was actually uninstalling certain files to reload them. the winsrv.exe file was missing. after much stress and time i just reinstalled my windows operating system because after that the cpu would not go to windows.
Last night I was trying to download Itunes but kept getting errors about permissions. I went through a bunch of forums and noticed that some people recommended that the svc pack 2 be installed because it had some fixes to help outside software downloads. I attempted to update the svc pack 2 again and it went through most of the download and then i was hit with the "access is denied" message. after hitting "ok" the system began to uninstall the service pack naturally. in it's process my computer froze for quite some time so i rebooted. when i rebooted, now my computer, yet again, will not go to windows... i tried to reboot in "safe mode" and "last known good configuration" but no dice. my computer just keeps turning off and on.
can someone help????? I am not sure if i need to just re-install windows again. thanks.

What is the make and model of the computer? Or is it custom built?
Are you using a Microsoft XP CD or an OEM (manufacturer) XP CD?

it's a dell that i had purchased a few years ago. i ended up reinstalling windows again and saving the contents that was in my C drive on a seperate windows folder. Now i have i can start my computer but its a pain now because my video card driver isn't installed and i don't have the disc, so my screen is at the lowest quality where the icons are huge. plus i have a wireless router set up for my internet that is connected in working but i'm having problems now connecting to the internet. i've tried to go in and register the dns again in the command prompt but my ipconfig doesn't show a dns ip address. dhcp is enabled but i'm not sure if that's my problem. i have a yahoo dsl package that i was given when i started service but it says that my computer is set up. i have a network set up and it says that the network is working fine, but i can't seem to get it working....
i reinstalled it using the disc that came in the package when i bought the computer.

Your graphics card drivers will be on-line as well as your LAN drivers.
Dell should have these drivers if you insert your exact model number in their search:
http://support.dell.com/support/down...=us&l=en&s=gen
If you added your own graphics card then you will need to go to the manufacturer's web site. Most likely either nvidia or ATI.
http://www.nvidia.com/content/drivers/drivers.asp
http://ati.de/support/driver.html
