I put a music CD in the CD rom drive but the computer does not see it. How do I fix that?

have you tried any other CD's? does your cd drive work?

You might have hit on something there. Quite often I put something in that drive, and it says there's nothing there. Think its trying to quit? Or already has?

Try going to the Device Manager and right click the drive and Uninstall it and then reboot.

See if there is any change.

i had a similar problem with my dvd rw... wouldnt regognise anything (nothing happened when a disk was inserted) i think it was the motor because when i took it out, it was rattling alot and didnt seem to move freely.

Fine! How do I get to the device manager? I thought I knew, but aparently not.

Right click My Computer then click Manage then Device Manager

It still asks me to put in a disk, when I already have. This drive dead?

See if you can boot your XP CD. Make sure your Boot Order has the CD drive set prior to the hard drive.
