Generic Host Process for Win32
Hi Pals,
For some time I am getting an error : "Generic Host Process for Win32 Services has encountered a problem and needs to close ". This error comes up after a while when I turn on the computer. Earlier this was causing a sound error with Winamp etc. and I had to restart the computer. Then I tried some fixes off the internet and the sound problem was resolved but this error still persists.
It also afects my CD-ROM drive. After the Generic.. error comes up.. the computer would not read the disk when inserted in the drive. I am using Windows XP Pro with SP2. I ran the anti-spyware tool, virus scan but nothing malicious was detected. I am using McAffee anti virus and Firewall. Tried "Hijack this" , still nothing detected.
Tried several steps but still the issue persists. Below are some of the details of the error. Kindly suggest something to fix the error.
Error Signature :
szAppName : svchost.exe szAppVer : 5.1.2600.2096 szModName : wuaueng.dll
szModver : 5.4.3790.2096.......
Technical information about the error has refernce of following files :
C:\DOCUME~1\ADMINI~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\WERbb42.dir00\s vchost.exe.mdmp
C:\DOCUME~1\ADMINI~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\WERbb42.dir00\a ppcompat.txt
Thanks and Regards,
Gerry.

szModName : wuaueng.dll is part of Windows Update.
Check your Event Viewer via Administrative Tools.
Open the System as well as Application tabs and look for red X errors that coincide with your problem. Details here:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/308427
Also if your blue screen is showing a memory dump do the following:
Go to start | search (type in) .dmp
Note the location of your .dmp files.
If no .dmp files check for minidump.
Remember this location and the path that leads to it.
Then:
1) Download and install the
Debugging Tools from Microsoft
All you need do is download and install this. Make no attempt to start or run it.
2) Download and install this
debugwiz
This is a DOS based batch file that will command the above Microsoft Tools.
3) Open the Wiz & Browse to, or paste in the path to, your .dmp file.
4) After the Wiz creates a Text document attach it back to this thread.

Hi Jephree,
Thanks a lot for the Reply with some good Troubleshooting steps.
You know what !!! I fixed the issue before trying these steps. I had read somewhere this resolution. I would like to share this quick fix that helped me to resolve my issue.
Since this appeared to be something related to Windows Update file, I turned Off Automatic Updates Option first. Then I went under Start--> All Programs--> windows Update and manually installed and downloaded the Windows Update. After that I restarted the system and turned on the Automatic Updates back again . "
This worked for me...
Thanks again.
Regards,
Gerry.
