Is this a new problem? If so try a System Restore:

start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore

If not or if System Restore does not solve the problem could you provide more history as to the problem?

will not allow me to system restore from start menu.

problem started 3 days ago. could not boot up machine - blue screen "bad image checksum" message. (can't remember exact message as was in a panic to print off and submit 2 assignments for uni next day).

managed to boot machine from windows reinstallation disk. ever since getting urlmon.dll error message. sometimes also get a little box with "RPS" and a cross in a red circle.

    thank you for your support

Those errors are from your BIOS.

    How did you reinstall?

Most likely you need to reload drivers.

What is the exact make and model of the computer?

Machine is a dell dimension 4700. It is about 2 years old. I don't think I have reinstalled anything, I just booted up the system from the cd

Any idea what happened three days ago?

Try reloading Network drivers from here:
