    Angry Major Problems...HELP!!! PLEEASE!!!

I am using Windows XP Pro on my laptop, I have been trying for the last week to get the wireless internet to work from our main computer....I have managed to get it all connected, the connection says the status is excellent, great, but it will not go online to the internet, so, I went into internet options etc, it said to configure the router which I did, then laptop shut down automatically and is now asking for a password when I turn it back on which it never did before...now I am completely locked out of my laptop!!!!!!!!

If you never set a password then pressing Enter should work.

I don't have much experience in this area but will do some searching.

Perhaps one of our other more knowledgeable members will have an idea for you.

It might help if you described the exact setup here. You said you have been trying for the last week to get the wireless internet to work from your main computer?

So is the laptop networked to the main computer? And the main computer to the router?

The main computer is connected to the router and is NTL Broadband and the wireless is also saying its connected to the router (belkin G wireless) The connecttion status reads Excellent, but I cannot get on the internet.
I've done the wireless set up on laptop.....not sure what else to do on main pc....sorry, I am a complete novice here.

Go to; my network connections, then right-click on your wireless connection and select "Properties".

From properties, there should be a tab at the top of the window that says something along the lines of "wireless network properties" or configuration. Click it.

Now, look towards the top of the window and see if the Box which reads "Use windows to configure my wireless internet connection" is checked. If not, check it. If you can't get here (the tab doesn't appear) log off and log back on to try again.

Also, you should disable any connections that are not the one you want to use, i.e. "belkin G".

Tell me if that works. I'll make a more informative post later.

ok this sounds like a problem with the connection set up !! ok try this !!

My Network Places > ( Left Hand Side ) Set Up A Home Or Small Office Network > 2 x Next > Tick The Ignore Disconnected Network Hardware Then Click Next > Select Other And Next > Select The Top One ( This Computer Connects To The Internet Directly Or Though A Network Hub ect Click Next > Select Your Wireless Card In The Connections Bit Click Next > Windows Wil Not Recommend Ect Click Next > Click Determine The Connections For Me Then Next Again > Next Again > And Again > And Again > This Will Not Set Up Your Connection Settings For Your Wireless Once This Is Done ( May Take About 5 Mins On Older Machines ) Just Click Finish > Reboot Your System And Give It Ago

    Good Luck

Okay, go back the way I told you and do this:

In the preferred networks box, your network should be listed. Click it to highlight it, then click properties. If you had someone else set up your network (like geeksquad or something) you should have a manually configured WEP key (network key) it will be written on your bill. enter it into the "network key" field then check for connectivity.

Also, click the "advanced" button (on the network connections<properties<wireless networks window) and check the middle option. Which should read, "Access point (Infastructure) networks only)

    Let me know.
