hi there i am trying to help a friend with his pc the symptons are as follows

when trying to play rome total war a "failure to initalize 3d audio" comes up and nothing happens

when trying to uninstall any game nothing happens

when trying to play call of duty 1 single player a "couldnt load default.cfg" warning comes up

we have made sure that all leads are secure inside the pc and have tried various system restore points and nothing is helping


we have tried updating sound card drivers as well and also we are up to date with windows update


any help would be appreciated if not i fear a total reformat is on the cards
