when my pointer remains in the same position for a few seconds it automatically opens up that folder
for example in OE I want to create a new message so I pass over "create new message" and the window opens up, but if I do not move the pointer, another window opens, and then another and so on.
How can I recitify this?

If this is a new problem try a System Restore to a point prior to the problem.

start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore

no. I'm afraid the problem is not new

Do you have Tweak UI installed? They have this hover over option in that program.

There is also a hover over option in the Properties via right clicking the start button then start menu > open files when hovered.

Sorry I cannot post the details as I am running with Linux at the moment.

Does your mouse have it's own software?
