    Exclamation XpPro Delayed Start

    Hi all

I have a funny problem that started recently and I don't know why.

Windows xp pro sp2 starts fine and goes into the first xp screen that shows the moving blue bar.

This lasts several seconds and then before the welcome screen comes up I get a rectangular box with an ok button on the bottom a red x in the top right hand corner and a few vertical bars in the top left hand corner.

The system stays frozen there until I press the ok button then it goes on and continues to the welcome screen and loads up as normal.

Everything runs fine with no problems until the next reboot.

Anyone come across this before and have any ideas how it happened and how to fix it??

    All help appreciated

What message do you get in the dialog box? (Before The Welcome Screen)

    No message.

No discernable words apart from the ok button in the bottom centre.

Tried this and this time it did not pause at the unknown screen.

Although it has done this before and then strangely returned to the previously described behaviour.

    Thanks for the suggestion.

I would recommend following all of Neal's instructions regarding your HijackThis log before doing anything else.
