Hello, I'm a newbie here so please bear with me!
I am using windows xp and up until lunchtime my internet use was working fine but then, for no apparent reason, I could not access many sites. They may be just secure sites I'm not sure. Some sites work fine other sites come up as page cannot be displayed - and they are the ones I need! In particular I can no longer access my email accounts, hotmail and gmail, or some other sites. As my work is done through my email accounts I'm in a real dilemma! I phoned my internet provider who did a check over the phone with me and they said that everything was working ok as far as my service was concerned and that I would need to ask for help elsewhere as the fault must be my computer! I'm really stuck now and wonder whether anyone knows what I could do to access these sites?

Try a System Restore to a point prior to the problem:

start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore

Thank you for your very prompt help. I tried what you said and restored it to this morning when it was okay but still same problem, so restored it again to last week and still no joy! Really strange as I thought it must just be secure websites that I could not get, e.g hotmail, gmail, ebay all which I tried, but can however get Paypal which is also a secure site (at least I hope it is!). Totally baffled!

If you are at a secure section of a site you will see https rather than http in the address bar. Anyway:

As a first response you might want to post a HijackThis log for review by our Pros in that section:

Please follow the instructions HERE & then post your log in a new thread in the Spyware, Adware, Viruses and HijackThis Logs section.

Please specify what issues you appear to be experiencing along with your log.


If they give you an all clear and the problem persists then please return to this thread and we can try other options.
