    Re-start

After replacing my hard drive, I keep getting re-starts after shut down...except when putting the computer in hibernate...shuts off perfectly in hibernate, but re-starts when shutting down....I have done the windows re-install 4 times...same thing...A tech told me to replace the power supply...did that...same thing...another tech told me my catylitic capacitors are swelling and that is the issue...yet , the computer works perfectly....except for the re-start issue...yes...I have tried all of the setting tricks and it makes NO difference...the restart is actually a total power-down and right back up...it does shut off ...for about 3 seconds...and turns itself back on ....except in hibernate mode....and ..yes...its a Compaq.....hows that for a wierd one? anybody ever experienced this one?

Compaq 5300 US...replaced hard drive ...re-starts after shutdown..does NOT re-start when in hibernate mode...re-start is actually a total shut-off and power up...within a few seconds.....yes...I have done the re-install 4 times....yes...I have tried all the setting tricks ...yes...I changed the power supply...a tech told me i have swollen catylitic capacitors...yet it works perfectly...and it will shut down in hibernate....but not in shut-down...I even purchased a new copy of XP....same thing...driving me crazy....your thoughts?

Have you checked all your BIOS settings?

    Wake-on this or that etc.

Also turn off any option to resume or power on after a power failure.

Is that a Compaq Presario 5300?

Oh yes...its a 5300 presario.....and I have been thru bios, and every concievable other solution...It simply wants to defy any logical reason...yet , it still works perfectly, other than the power on issue...a tech told me it has swollen catylitic capacitors causing its problem..they are pregnant...which means we are dealing with a female computer...and we all know you cannot figure them out anyway...any replies will be appreciated....Bob
