Red face Right Click options & Removing a stubborn folder

    Hi

Ok I have two problems here.

First one concerns the "Administrative Tools" folder being on my Desktop, and yet empty. It can't be deleted. I want to delete it as a) its empty b) I already have the main "Administrative Tools" folder in "Accessories"

Second question, and I searched but found no guidance on this; how can I add more options to my desktop right-click?

I mean I've installed around 300 programs now onto my computer after the format and clean install, but the options I'm given are around three!

This is when yuo get the option "New"

I'm looking for somewhere where by default I can go at once and enter in all the programs I'd like to be in the right-click rather than have set them up each time I come across a file to open.

I would also like more options to be in "Open With".

Is there such a place and option?

I know there's a place, there's anme to it where you can create these "Open with" linkages but I don't remember where. Maybe in Control Panel... I don't honestly remember.

Thanks for your help - excellent forum esp the mods!

    WOW!

Just an update I recommend FREE RegSeeker - phenomenal! Every other program I ran either never picked up 900 of these entries that it did or needed me to pay to do anything about them.

Through RegSeeker I was able to "tweak" my computer and its much quicker now, I don't know how but after removing 600 entries... it sure is a lot quicker. Even the start menu appears three times as quick -(set to 400ms)

    Surely I jest you not...

I know Jephree edits/cleans his own registry

I also need some help. Regseeker and other software found 300 entries, invalid path or missing fonts, unused "open with" and unused file extensions. These still remain as I don't know if they are needed, what the outcome will be and why exactly they are not there!?

I have seen many program, fonts, start menu keys from my pre-format and XP installation still there BTW! I had to delete about 600 of them so far as they don't exist (I checked the relevant folders for 9, and am also very aware of whats on my computer now: they don't exist!)

    Sorry to pest you more

Folder Options > File Types = Open With... options.

Next: can you drag and drop your "Admin Tools" back into My Documents? If not what error do you get upon deleting attempt?

Next: what right click options are missing? Many of these are added by programs. This is also part of the Shell Extension as these programs extend your shell. I believe you have that tool to allow or deny the various shell extenders.

I use RegSeeker all the time for the many tools that it contains.

It does create backups. You can clear all the green on one go then hit the red next then the services if you so choose. Thus creating 3 separate backups. If you notice any issues restore. I recommend ERUNT for a good registry backup and NTREGOPT for an optimizer:

I would also advise against trying too many things while you are still having outstanding issues. You can clean and tweak when all is well and balanced.

Also the HijackThis section will be a bit slow as Neal has lost his computer for the weekend. Sorry

It only allows one type of association. I'm looking to increase this to at least four for some extensions..
But its shown me the extensions and file associations instead.

I also want the list to expand where in "Right-click > New > xxxx"

    Any idea's?

Also, when I press my Ctrl key an animated circle appears to the right of my screen and one that shrinks away in size and flashes away,

Any idea's what this could be and how to change/remove it?

Next: can you drag and drop your "Admin Tools" back into My Documents?
    Yes, done.

    Next please?

In the right-click>New section I don't have any picture or word document in there apart fromText Document and GIMP Image.

Yes I have created three backups with RegSeeker at least so far while my computer worked well.

Mine are all green but should I delete the ones I have left, i.e. "Unsued Extensions" that I don't recognise and "unused Open with"???

    I have 300 remaining.

I have and use them both thanks.

Ok, thanks. It is logical your right.

    Wow, how is that?

    Thanks Jephree!

Control Panel > Mouse > Pointer Options > Show location when I press CTRL key.

As to your menus I do not think any such things exit within XP iteslf.

For example I have no New option by right clicking.

Perhaps there are Office options or add-ons from other programs.

If I run across anything I will post it.

Sure? to clarify further I mean "New" when on the "Desktop" i.e. new folder, new text document etc.

    You don't have these???

OK yes. But outside of Folder; shortcut; Bitmap; Briefcase; Rich Text; Text; sound... everything else is third party software which should be listed under ShellExView.

    Also:

    Install TweakUI.
    http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/d...powertoys.mspx

    TweakUI > Templates > Create.

    - or -

Restore the "New" Context Menu to Default

    Thanks Jephree.

When I move the Admin Tools to My Documents I still can't delete it and its empty.

I already have the main one in Accessories and I don't want this one.

Ok, as the third party software is what I have installed then. It allows me for example to open up a "New" GIMP image or Serif Application etc.

I'll check the links out ASAP. Right now I'm having Firefox 2 problems.- persistent crashes upon opening.

    Thanks
