    ad aware deleted my internet

Last night I ran ad aware and then deleted all the files. After completion, I was unable to get on the internet. I called the cable company and they said that the IP address cannot be recognized due to something I deleted. They had me delete ad aware from my computer and reboot. Unfortunately, I now see that I could have used the back-up quanentine files to fix the problem. We tried to restore, but it didn't work. What can I do? I only have one computer in the house---how do I download a fix if I cannot get on the iternet?

It sounds as though you can boot into windows.

If so, you could try to run C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\Connection Wizard\inetwiz.exe. If key system files haven't been removed, it may re-establish your network parameters etc. You may require your XP CD. You may also possibly have to reinstall certain updates if updated files have been removed, or, are about to be overwritten with older files from the CD.

I've never attempted the above scenario as I haven't been in that situation. (I have four systems.) However, if you're in the Windows operating environment, it usually informs/provides options to cancel operations.

Make sure you have the Network drivers present when you go through the Network Connections Wizard.

I tried the above but it didn't work even reinstalling XP didn't help. My IP address is still reading all zeros---is there a way to fix that or if not, can I do something to bring my computer back to its original state? I have saved all necessary pictures/documents that I want, so I do not care if I loose anything---we just need our internet back.
    Thank you very much!

"... even reinstalling XP didn't help.."
Can you please clarify the above statement?

Exactly what did you do/steps taken to reinstall XP?

I reinstalled XP Professional Service Pack 1 because my frustration level got the best of me. I cannot cannot get into my computer.
Windows XP screen comes on and then a screen that says Setup is being restarted----black screen apprears with white writing "Cannot Display This Video Mode."
I did a diognostic test and found error code 5300:061F
Failure video mode 100h (640x400x256). I tried to start in safe mode but is says "Start up cannot be done in Safe Mode" and then it boots to the black screen with the cannot disply this video mode. Is there anything I can do or do I need to bite the bullet and bring it somewhere. Thanks so much.

Are you doing a Clean Install off of a Microsoft XP CD? Or some type of recovery disk from an OEM?

If the latter what is the make and model of the computer?

Does the motherboard have a VGA port?

Yes, I did a clean install off a microsft XP CD. I have a Dell 8260, where would I find a VGA Port?

I can find a Dimension 8250 which has both AGP 4X and on-board VGA.

In the following generic illustration the upper arrow points to the on-board VGA whereas the lower would be your AGP card.
If your monitor is plugged into the lower then move it to the upper.

Yes, it is a 8250, sorry. The monitor is plugged in below but the above port is a male receiver and so is the monitor plug. Should I purchase an adaptor to get it to fit? Thanks for all your help.
