Windows XP Sp2

Hi please help as i'm stuck!

When my computer starts up I get the windows screen and then for some reason now I get a log on screen which i never had before. If I click log on it says logging on loading settings etc and then I get my original desktop picture that I put on and then I get a screen saying logging off and it goes back to the original log on screen. I can't get task manager by ctrl+alt+del and it does the same in safe mode. I've tried logging in as administrator to. Hope someone can help please.

is the version a legit version of XP, has it been activated?

have you added or deleted any software recently?

Yes its genuine. Oh its XP pro forgot to say. Being doing some research and found quite a few people with same problem and it happened the same way as mine did. I was updating spyware entries when it happened.

what spyware were you updating?

can you try a system restore?

microsoft windows defender but I can't try restore as i cant get into windows
