    Ethernet Port not recognized

Hi all, this is my first post here. Nice setup you all have goin .

I just bought this machine. And just got it in yesterday. So last night i hook it all up an everything runs beautifully. But i saw that they left alot of stuff on the machine. So i pop in the disc to wipe the hd clean. Now, when my screen savers pop up they are at a choppy frame rate. IT didnt do this before i wiped the hd.

Anyway, the main deal is my ethernet port. I have a "Local area Connection" with my NVIDIA nForce Networking Controller. Also there is "1394 Connection" with a 1394 Net Adapter. When i enable the nvidia one it says "Network cable is unplugged." When i enable the "1394 Connection" nothing happens, it's connected. So i try to goto the web with it and get the "Work Offline" prompt box. If i try to repair this connection it says; "Windows could not finish repairing the problem because the following action cannot be completed:
Failed to query TCP/IP settings of the connection. Cannot proceed.

For assisstance, contact the person who manages your network."

I've done everything i know to do and no luck as of yet. If anyone has any ideas please let me know. Thanks!

BTW, the new machine runs XP media center edition. And the computer i am on now is just XP Home.

What is the precise Gateway model?

    http://support.gateway.com/support/drivers/dlcenter.asp

Did you use a Recovery Disk from Gateway? Did they also supply a driver disk?

In general you would need to reload the drivers after the Operating System.

Gateway may have more specific instructions at the above link.

It's a Gateway GT5056. After i reloaded the system it still didn't work. So i went to the gateway site and got all the drivers for that machine. Installed them all and still no luck. Could it be that it's disabled in BIOS? Or that the ethernet port is fried? I'm all out of clues.

    Thanks for the help!
