60 second shutdown appears when login to Windows, help!
Was in the process of installing Windows updates for XP Professional from Microsoft.com when we suffered a power cut and installation was interrupted. Now when I log into Windows an error message appears, quoting
'Services % Controller App has encountered a problem & needs to close.'
followed by another error message, with a 60 second countdown,
'This shutdown was initiated by NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM. C:\Windows\System32\Services.exe terminated unexpectedly with status code 1073741819. System will now shut down & restart.'
Windows then either restarts and the same happens again or it just locks up.
Any suggestions or solutions would be very much appreciated!! Please help if you can!
Thanks again
Jonny

Oops apologies didn't mean to post this twice!

sounds like you have the blaster virus someone else will no doubt confirm this and supply removal instructions

There are several things that could be wrong. Try these.
1. obtain the latest service pack for Windows xp
2.This type of error can be caused from the "sasser worm" to Here are some instructions for clean up. http://gladiator-antivirus.com/forum...hp/t14196.html[/quote]
3. You can also reformat your hd which would probably fix the problem

As a first response you might want to post a HijackThis log for review by our Pros in that section:
Please follow the instructions HERE & then post your log in a new thread in the Spyware, Adware, Viruses and HijackThis Logs section.
(Not in this section please).
Please specify what issues you appear to be experiencing along with your log

Hello
Thanks for the input. I'm gunna have a look at the instructions for removal that Rickson provided so thanks for that. I'd post a Hijackthislog entry but it would involve some downloading and can't really do that on my comp at the mo. But for the future definitely. This site is such a great idea. Appreciate all the help.
Kind regards
Jonny
