    Drivers Disappeared

Just replaced my CD ROM drive and now I cannot see either my CDROM drive not my DVDRW Drive in "My Computer".
I did uninstall as I was told, when I restarted the computer it found both of the pieces of hardware, but they are not visible.
When I put either a CD or DVD into either of these drives they do not autostart neither.

How do you have the cables and jumpers setted?

If you have two IDE slots, one will be Master and another will be Slave. IDE 1 is Master. You will also have to set the jumper for each one at Master if nothing else is connected to the separate cables.

This usually makes a difference even with hardrives, that if this is not correct your system won't show you the device in My Computer.

Go into Start>Run>devmgmt.msc>ok and first check for the drives to see if they are there.

    Try Kazna3's ideas.

Also: what do you mean by: I did uninstall as I was told?

What did you uninstall? What told you to do so?

In general XP does not need external drivers for these devices as it has it's own which load upon hardware found.

Yes they are there I can see them in the disk drive folder but they are still not visible when i go start "My Computer".
Also still when I put either a CD or DVD into either of these drives they do not autostart.

Did Kaznas3's idea, I see the drivers in device manager but still not in the "My Computer" folder
"Troubleshooter" it said on one prompt if the driver did not work to uninstall and the devices will be found again when I re-start so I did uninstall, when I restarted the computer found both of the pieces of hardware, but they are not visible when I go start "My Computer".
Also still when I put either a CD or DVD into either of these drives they still do not autostart.

Go thru the uninstall process again but only install one drive at a time.

In other words physically disconnect the slave and install the Master.

If that works then go back and install the slave.

    Jephree, Mattanddo,

the only reason this problem occurs is when either the BIOS is restricted, i.e. extra IDE option "disabled" or set wrongly, OR if one has the jumper/cable settings wrong.

Checkup here, it shouldn't be anything other.
