XP Pro/XP SP2 difference
Hi all
Another basic question...
What is the difference between XP Professional and XP SP 2?
Thanks
-
Service Packs are not different versions of the XP operating system...they're just developments to current operating systems that are released with the intent of optimizing your system performance. Therefore, to say that your computer runs XP SP2 is not complete information. You can have Windows XP Home or Pro with service packs for either OS. We have Install discs for Windows XP Pro with Service Pack 1 here at the office.
If I'm wrong about this, may God have mercy on my soul for being wrong about this all this time...

Thanks for your response,it does indeed sound correct!

SP2 is the latest revision of XP. As of now it is the only supported version of XP and it should be on all computers.
There have also been at least 30 Critical updates since SP2 was released over two years ago.
If at some point Microsoft thinks it expedient all these will become SP3.
The vast majority of the updates relate to security issues.
Installing all Critical Updates from Windows Update is recommended.
