Does this cam not work if you just plug it in?
Open the Wizard via start > All Programs > Accessories > Scanner and Camera Wizard
Do you get this error while trying to install some software that came with the cam?
That error is a very generic installer error. Do you have all the latest Critical Windows Updates on top of SP2?

Yes i am fully upgraded. and it states quite strictly not to install the cam before the drivers/software, i have tried to work it without the software before but it wont budge, the light on the cam turns on though.
- yes its the software that came with the cam

Is this the cam:
http://direct.tesco.com/q/R.100-6294.aspx
In general USB webcams are plug and play requiring no drivers or software although they usually come with a CD with trial programs etc.
Is there a web link to the manufacturer of this cam? All I can find online is the above link plus apparantly a different Technika company:
http://www.technika.com/
Also what is the make and model of the computer?
-
yep thats the one. and ye iv been googling for hours, and looking at previous forums. thats how i saw this one because a previous problem i had occured (1607 unable to install installshield scrypting runtime) wich just happened again as i rebooted my computer. so thats another problem. there is NOTHING concerning web help on the manual or the box so i really dont know what to do.
- so to continue with the installation it looks like i need to end msiexec.exe again ( i am not preforming any other installations)
- have you got either msn or yahoo because that would make this problem so much easier to solve

If you just plug in the cam is it listed under My Computer?
If you have installer corruption you might try this utility:
http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;290301
Yet again that cam should work with just XP's USB drivers.
Is there no manufacturer listed other than Technika? Is Technika perhaps just a model name?

technika webcam compact usb cif webcam cmos sensor 352 x 288 pixels etc. etc. it says no other make, i think it is specifically for tesco wich is a supermarket we have here.
and its not listed :/ ill try going to add hardware, but i doubt it will work.
- when i plug it in it says "found new hardware CIF single chip"

Here is another link with installer tips (especially if you are having multiple install issues):
http://support.microsoft.com/default...&Product=winxp
Also have you tried to install this cam on a different computer?
This would at least test whether the cam or this computer is having the problem.
Did you try this path:
Open the Wizard via start > All Programs > Accessories > Scanner and Camera Wizard
It should be seen under My Computer as well.
Do you use other USB devices?
Is Plug and Play started under Services?
start Run... services.msc

it is on neither my computer nor scanner and camera wizard. i have varioius plug and play devices, a lazer usb mouse and speakers too. plug and play is under serices. it works on another computer but i stil cant get it to work on this.
- thankyou for your effort i know this is painstaking.
