    screen glitches

    Hi,
I'm not sure what the problem is but my screen has been glitchy for a day now. I'm not sure what to do. I shut down the computer and when I turned it back on I received an error screen. If anyone has any idea what to do I'd really appreciate their help. By glitches I mean the screen flashes to black, my icons fragment, etc.
    Thanks,
    Matt

    What was the verbatim error?

By going through safe mode and VGA, I have found that the screen must not be to blame. However, here is the error:
    problem cause by nv4_disp
device driver stuck in an infinite loop. This usually indicates problem with the device itself or with the device driver programming the hardware incorrectly
    nv4_disp
    beginning dump physical memory
    Physical memory dump complete

From what you've described I would put my money on the video card driver.

You can grab the latest driver for it here:

    http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_2k_91.47.html

Heres the dilema, I can't open anything on my desktop b/c of the freezing screen glitches. Is there another way to install the driver? dl to a flashdrive or something and install in safe mode? like i said, not real confident with comps.

    Thanks,
    Matt

You can do as you suggest but you can also try starting in Safe Mode with Networking whcih should allow you to go online in Safe Mode.

Well I installed the new driver, and I received a new error message.
Check to be sure you have adequate disk space. If a driver is identified in the stop message, disable the driver or check with the manufacturer for updates. Try changing video adapters. Then there was BIOS updates, disabling caching/shadowing. There was no mention of the driver in the stop message.

    Did you follow these hints:

    Driver Installation Hints

"Download Accelerator" utilities should be disabled when downloading any drivers.

Do not run virus protection software in the background while installing the drivers. This prevents the driver from configuring itself properly.

Before installing new drivers make sure you uninstall all NVIDIA display drivers from the Windows Control Panel. Browse to the Start Menu > Windows Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and search for "NVIDIA Windows Display Drivers" or "NVIDIA Display Drivers" and select remove.
Does the motherboard have on-board VGA or do you have another Graphics card to try?
