School boy error...
Hello,
I'm running a Dell Dimension 5100, year and a half old, lovely machine. (or was).
Attempted to upgrade my Norton's virus to '07 upgrade'.
The second I began to install disc, my PC was flooded with every ADware and virus under the sun. (I may start another post on this...!)
Anyway, long story short, had to format HD and install new soundcard. Whilst placing soundcard in slot, (and I did earth myself several times) the slot cover slipped and in my attempt to place it back it touched, I think the graphics card and - *SPARK* - and dead machine.
School boy error I know!
The power light still comes on and it appears to re-boot but no image or signal to screen.
My question is: Is there a failsafe fuse or breaker across the whole machine that will have blown? Or is it the individual PCI slot (I think the Graph card) that it touched that will have been damaged or what? Any ideas how I can resurrect my machine...? Or test it?
Thanks for any replies.

Hi Sparkle,
It sounds like you've probably blown the graphics card.
But the first thing you need do is some elimination.
The fault could be the mobo or the graphics card or the monitor.
If possible try your monitor on another PC.
Try a known working monitor on your PC.
Then either borrow a graphics card or try your card in another PC.
By elimination you'll then have a pretty good idea of what to do next.
Regards.

Thanks Ford (name - cool)
The monitor is fine as my (MAC) works on it.
Gonna try new graphics card 1st - as I was going to upgrade anyway...
Thanks..
