Hello there, My system is asking for a system disk but I don't have one. It will not continue to boot up and will stay in the same dark window requesting for the System disk. It will not let me go into safemode either. I can get into the setup but that's it. what can i do. i have over 20 gigs on family pictures and another 10 on family videos!! Please help.

In a worse case scenario you can slave this drive in another computer to access your data.

What is the make and model of the computer? Were you not given Recovery disks with the computer?

You could try accessing the Recovery Console and try FIXBOOT

To access the Recovery Console without an XP CD you can use the 6 floppy boot disks from MS:

I will try both, at the moment i'm away from home but i will try the fix first then the disks and if it all fails i will slave the hard drive and pull my stuff out. thank you, i will keep you posted.
