After using XP to decide if my 2001 version on Norton Utilities (ME) was compatible with XP it warned of a file conflict. The corrected file was duly downloaded and the programme installed OK. On using I found that most of the programmes would not function due to lack of compatability with XP which made it more or less useless !
I then decided to remove the programme using Add/Remove programmes in control panel. I get up an error message saying that the installation file C:\Programme Files\Norton Utilities\uninst.isu could not be found and the uninstall could not proceed.
I am "reasonably" computer literate but have always avoided changing registry entries as I don't know what I am doing. I know there is an issue of shared files but can I just go in and remove all Norton Utilities files without screwing everything up ? Help
Here is Symantec's guide although it does not equate NSW 2001 with XP as it did not exist at that time. You will probably find very similar locations.

Especially in the link to:

Have you tried this?
Start Windows in Safe mode
Parts 1-13
I have been having similar problems, but mine have moved on a little further.
when i try to remove or make any alterations to norton it comes up with the following message -
" A norton personal firewall account with supervisor access must be logged in to uninstall this product. if norton personal firewall is not currently running run it again from the start menu and log in again".
But when i try to do anything at all with norton i get the following pop up -
" Access denied, only the supervisor can view or change the options".
I have tried so many ways to get this sorted with no luck - and to top it all Norton is blocking me from some shopping and banking sites also !!
Any help would be most gratefully accepted......
Thanks for the response. I have tried to sort out my problem and have scoured the internet and Norton's own Troubleshooting system to no avail. I have read so much stuff that I can now remove Norton Utilities from early versions of the Bible but still can't get rid of it from XP. I have recently installed Norton Internet security but as I am the only user of my PC did not use the facility to become "supervisor". If you still have your original CD or saved the download and retained your licence key the best way with Norton is to completely uninstall the programme and then re-install from scratch !It can take quite a while but usually works OK,

Thanks anything is worth a try![]()
