    Problem with XP Home install

    Hello all,

My sons old athlon xp machine gave up the ghost a couple of weeks ago so decided to build him a new one.

    Asus AV8 Deluxe wi-fi g mobo

    AMD 64 3200+ processor - socket 939

    Western Digital 120gb hdd (IDE)

    1 gb Ballistix PC4000 NON-ECC UNBUFFERED DDR ram (2 x 512mb)

    NVIDIA GEFORCE GRAPHICS CARD 128MB

The build went well..it posted and I installed windows on the machine. When I installed the asus WI-FI Card and the asus WI-FI driver...the machine locked up after it re-started. Now I am unable to boot into windows or into safe mode. I have tried a clean install but when windows boots after the initial setup procedure I get the following message

windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt -

    C:/WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\l_intl.nls.

I have tried to copy the file with the repair option to no avail. I have checked my HD and that is reporting ok, I have tested the memory and that is ok. The machine still posts and detects my HD and CD drives....I am now on my 10th install since Friday. Last evening I wiped the HD clean and started afresh thinking there may have been a boot sector virus as the HD was in his old machine with an older HD as the slave. A virus check revealed nothing. The HD is now completely cleared. I started all over again, created a partition....fingers crossed...but yes you guessed it..my old friend SYSTEM32\l_intl.nls missing or corrupted popped up.

I have run setup with 512gb memory and with the wi-fi card removed but still no luck.

I am now at a loss as what to do next.
Why did it install in the first place and why is this file now missing.

I hope one of you good people can help before the thing grows wings and flies out of the bedroom window.

    Thanks in advance

    Yes Fiona,

The CDROM is set as first boot device. Windows XP gets into the installation cycle with format etc etc. Its just when it re-boots after the initial cycle that I get the error message.

I have even tried with the xp setup with 6 floppies but still get the same result.

    The BIOS posts ok.
    CPU detected and reports ok
    Memory detected and reports ok
my CD and HDD are detected with no errors
