Umm, hi.
Im gogs brother for the record.........
Recently my computer when i tried to log onto any account the screen just messed up with tears and such, i was unable to safley load in safe mode. Then i tried re-formatting windows 98, but when i tried to load it it has some kind of 'secruity error' (legal copy btw) so i then tried reformating with my windows XP, and now when i try to load it up, the screen just goes black. Plz help! (ps i dont need any files or anything, i just want it to start working)
Thanks!
Gogs brother
when you reformatted the drive, do yo ujust install it over the copy, or did you fdisk it first?
errr just installed it over the copy - what is fdisk?Originally Posted by jakeyeager

A DOS and Windows utility that prepares a hard disk for formatting by creating one primary partition on the disk.

This should not be necessary if you are trying to install XP. Is this what you want to do? Do you have a legitimate copy of XP for this computer? It could not have been used on any other. (The key that is).
If the above is correct what exactly happens? You boot the XP CD? You choose Setup XP > Enter?
You are asked for the key? Does the Setup begin? Where does it fail?

Well i boot from the XP CD, choose setup XP enter bla bla bla then i think (bad memory) it restarts and starts to install windows xp, u know on the corner it has 'x mins remaining' with the steps on the side, when thats done it restarts, the XP loading logo comes up, flashes, then goes black, the screen stays black, but it does work in safemode...
hope this helps.
It does work in Safe Mode?
Are you saying that XP installs completely but then only will boot into Safe Mode?
If so you probably need to load your graphics drivers.
Do you know your graphics device?
If not what is listed under Display adapters in the Device Manager?
go to the Device Manager start Run... devmgmt.msc
yeh im using safemode atm, sounds like its the graphics drivers then, i have a
'NVDIA GeForce4 MX 440' (microsoft corp.)

Driver Installation Hints
"Download Accelerator" utilities should be disabled when downloading any drivers.
Do not run virus protection software in the background while installing the drivers. This prevents the driver from configuring itself properly.
Before installing new drivers make sure you uninstall all NVIDIA display drivers from the Windows Control Panel. Browse to the Start Menu > Windows Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and search for "NVIDIA Windows Display Drivers" or "NVIDIA Display Drivers" and select remove.
omg this was the problem, i havn't downloaded it yet, but i uninstalled nvdia and it restarted into normal mode! sweet! do i still need to download that thing? can u plz get me sound + graphic card downloads?Originally Posted by jephree
If the Graphics appear as you like them there is no need to upgrade the driver.
It is also possible that you reverted back to onboard graphics via deleting Nvidia.
