bsod! and there is nothing i can do about it!

i just got a hp compaq nc6220 laptop and i was installing the drivers for the computer (ethernet, audio, wireless, bios flash update) and when i restart the computer i get a bsod right after the windows logo appears, saying: a problem has been detected...........technical information :

    stop: 0x0000007E (0x0000005, 0xf85630bf, 0x897f20c, 0xf897ef0c)

    pci.sys - address f85630bf base at f855c000, datestamp 3b7d855c.

and it occurs everytime i start the computer not allowing me to access windows not even through safe mode or last known good configuration, and the same error comes when i try to reiinstall windows, the driver load up but then this error comes.

i would be really greatful if you could give some advise to how i can reinstall windows or just get into windows to fix this.

p.s i have tried to google the error message but did not find anything that was able to help me

There are a few ideas in this search:

I would suspect the drivers you were installing. The Ethernet or Wireless NIC perhaps.

Or the BIOS flash. Why were you flashing the BIOS on a new computer? Didn't the drivers come installed as well?

The most expedient method might be to return it to the retailer and perhaps your warranty will cover a fix.

i got the computer second hand. and the previous owner just formatted the computer, which is ok because i would have done that anyway. and the bios driver was since early 2005, so i desided to update it.
but the computer warranty is out dated and i really cant afford to take it to a repair shop, so i was hoping to get some responds regarding how i can do this myself.
i was wondering if it would help if i took out the hard drive and put it in a external hdd box and set up windows on my desktop and then put it back in the laptop... anyone

In general XP needs to be installed on the motherboard that will use it.

Are you using HP Recovery disks or are you using a Microsoft XP CD?

    Gremor,
You have installed BIOS softpack version F.11 or later which on the Compaq NC6220 is not compatible with SP1, and will not allow you to boot the legacy service pack to upgrade. If you download the obsolete BIOS version F.10, then extract to a folder, then copy to diskette and install it from either Windows PE or Bart's PE this will let you boot the system into Windows XP. Then you can upgrade to SP2 and install the later BIOS softpack.
