Installing Windows XP on older model pc
Im trying to install Windows XP or Windows 98 into a older computer that was recently formated and when I try to install windows it tells me a system file is missing for all versions that I try to install.
I belive I need to make a boot disk on a floppy with some system files but im not sure what files and how to do it.
Thank you for you time in advance.

Are you sure that the computer meets the minimum requirements of XP?
Are you booting the XP CD?
Does the CD boot?
When do you get this error?
What is the verbatim error?
Is this a retail Microsoft XP CD?
You can get floppy boot disks here but they should not be necessary to install XP from a Microsoft CD.

The XP version spans 6 floppies and is specific to Home or Pro as well as SP1 or 2 or none.
Most installation errors at the Setup level are either bad or improper CD's or else bad or incompatible hardware.

It was running XP before so yes it does meet requirements.
Yes it is a XP CD.
The CD does boot.
After it does a disk check.
Dont know.
Yes it is a retail XP CD - Does the same for my 98 CD

After it does a disk check.
Can you describe what exactly happens?
You boot the CD? You get: Press any key to boot CD?
You get to Setup XP?
Setup checks hardware configuration?
Is this where it fails?
