I followed the instructions and successfully uninstalled the old drivers, and removed the ATI entries from my registry. I noticed the lines after reboot, but they were not as bad and they were lower on the screen, near the bottom. I then installed the new drivers, and the problem is back.
The lines are back in the same spot they were in before.
What are your thoughts?
I just tried safe mode again, and the lines are there now as well, but just in a different position.
I guess it's the video card? It's a shame if it is, it's less than a year old.
Did you install or do you have XP SP2 as well as the .NET Framework?
Also: do you have another monitor to try?
Also: does your current monitor have a DeGauss button?
I do have SP2 & microsoft netframe work v 1.1 as well as a hoftix.
I don't have another monitor.
And I just tried degauss and it didn't fix the problem.
I'm really hoping it's the monitor, but I'm thinking it's the card, because the lines only start appearing after I reach the blue "Welcome" screen. What do you think? Got any other tricks up your sleeve?![]()

Do you have your old card to try again?
What is the exact ATI model? There are some retro drivers here:
https://support.ati.com/ics/support/...ge&folderID=27
Under the Not Supported section.
Also did this card ever work OK?Not Supported: (To download drivers for these products, please click below)
Radeon® 9250 series
Radeon® 9200 series
Radeon® 9000 series
Radeon® 8500 series
Radeon® 7500 series
Radeon® 7200 series
Radeon® 7000 series
ATI All-in-Wonder® variants based on the above are also not supported.
The exact model is ATI Radeon x800xl 256 mb PCI-E. The card has worked fine since January.
Your question reminds me, I do have an old Nvidia 128mb PCI card. I will hook it up and give it a try.
Will update.
Either the new drivers are faulty or your video card is slightly damanged (in a way that only newer drivers make use of ). Keep the old drivers for now at least till the a newer set are available to try.
This would be your CRT as the printscreen wouldn't show it.
