    Angry Laptop 2 Laptop

I am having big probs retrieving my valuable info from my 2 yr old IBM Thinkpad. The screen has died, and I need to know how to open up the IBM operating system on a Toshiba Sat via a cable connected to both computers. Both are running on XP Pro.................HELP!!!

If the IBM is un bootable you are not going to be able to connect to it in this fashion.

You can remove the IBM hard drive and either fit it in an external drive case that accepts a laptop hard drive or get an adapter in order to slave the drive internally on a desktop computer.

With either of these methods you will be able to access the data assuming that the hard drive itself is not mechanically damaged.

You could also try troubleshooting the IBM itself from their web site:

    Thx for valued reply.

The IBM is bootable, but I cannot see the screen to type in my password !

A pc shop locally has connected it to their tower, but I wasn't there at the time to see what the guy did re connections etc. The cable I bought was an RS232 will this help ?

    Thx Dave.

Since you have that cable there's no harm in trying it assuming that both laptops have serial ports.

Does the IBM have a VGA port for an external monitor?

Perhaps with a quick call to the PC shop they would be kind enough to explain what they did.

Have resolved problem using a monitor with rs232 port. Couldn't do it with laptop 2 laptop, but thx for reply. Dave
