unwanted thumbnails
When I get an e-mail with an atachment (photos) and then view them, you can press the back & forward arrows. This not only shows the photos that have been sent, but a load of "thumb nails" of other pictures often appear. Some of these we recognise as images on some websites we have visited, but some we do not recognise.
(1)Where would these unwanted pictures be stored and how do we delete them?
(2)How can we prevent this happening again?
(3)If we sent someome an e mail with a photo atatched, would it also send these unwanted additions?
Sorry, not very computer literate, only just instaled software to download digital camera pictures!

What software did you install?
Unless you desire the added features from this software it is not necessary.
I would suggest uninstalling it and see if the problem persists.
Otherwise it is most likely a feature and or setting within said software.

Hi Jephree
Thanks for your reply, I've only just registered.
The software came with the camera, FinePix SX Version 4.0f and works with the camera OK to download pictures from the camera. This is not the problem, it's when I get an e mail from someome else with a photo atatched, I see their photo OK but scrolling back & forth, I see thumbnails of other things that were not sent, bits of web sites we have visited in the past, if this makes any sense ?
You suggest uninstalling it, how do I do this?
Thanks for your advice,
Regards, Don

What is the e-mail program? Outlook Express? Outlook?
Is the photo actually in the e-mail or does the attachment open a photo program/editor?
What are you scrolling? The e-mail or a photo program/editor.
If the attachment is opening in your photo program/editor then most likely all of your saved photos are stored within.

Hi Jephree
I use Outlook Express for e-mails.
The photo is an attachment.
I am scrolling the left/right arrows at the bottom of the screen.
Can I delete ALL images that come in from a web site that I visit after each session on the computer?
This would cure the problem in a round-about way.

I am a bit confused. The only images that would be saved would be images that you chose to save. No images save themselves.
What program opens the attachment? The Windows Picture and Fax Viewer? Does it say this in the upper left of the window?
That being said you can delete your Temporary Internet Files via Tools > Internet Options > General > Temporary Internet Files

Hi jephree
As an example, on recepit of an e mail, when I click on "download attachments", a small screen appears asking if I want to save this file:
name DSCF8951.JPG
type JPEG immage
from ukf272mail.yahoo.com
From OPEN SAVE CANCEL I choose OPEN
A File Download window appears briefly..........
The picture sent by e mail appears perfectly on the screen, full size; the top line shows:
Adobe Photoshop Album Starter Edition 3.0 DSCF8951[;].JPG
Below the picture is a tool bar with left & right arrows to scroll through more than one picture.
HERE IS THE PROBLEM:
THESE ARROWS ARE BLACK AND USING THEM BRINGS UP LOADS OF THUMBNAILS FROM RECENT VISITS TO MY WEB SITES.
FOLLOWING YOUR SUGESTION TO DELETE TEMPORARY INTERNET FILES, THESE ARROWS ARE NOW BROWN AND DO NOT SCROLL INTO PICTURES THAT WERE NOT IN THE ORIGINAL ATTACHMENT!
Strange, but true!
Could there be a setting to change black arrows to brown?
Regards, Don

What you are seeing is temporary files. When you choose open instead of save, the file is stored in the temporary content folder along with all the other favicons etc that the computer holds while you are online.

Hi Tassie Devil
I tried SAVE instead of OPEN, this puts it in drive A,and when I look, there are brown scroll arrows, so no other pictures. No problem!
But,what I still don't understand is: using OPEN for the attachment, BLACK scroll arrows show, and what you call FAVICONS (that were not in the orriginal attachment) are shown!
I know I can solve the problem by deleting temporary internet files every day, but why should i have to?
Bit puzzeled, DON

You don't have to Don. It will just be a small annoyance because of where your computer opens files that have not been saved. Everyones does the same thing. I had a bunch in the other night and all the temp pics were there too.
You can set your computer to delete the temp files when you close your browser. Go to tools/internet options/advanced and make sure the 'empty temporary internet files when browser is closed' is ticked. It will delete them automatically.
