Problem with DVD-RW in XP
Hi, I'm new to this forum, but, by the looks of it - it's my last chance
I have Windows XP SP2 on my computer
p4p-800-e deluxe MB, 1gb geil ram, 2 hdd
I purchased a Pioneer DVD-RW 111D
After installation, the computer recognized the drive, but no disks were able to be played - cd, dvd, audio or data.
I returned the drive, they gave me a new, working one, and I installed it again - same result.
It's the only disk drive in the computer, it is connected the correct way (checked like 100 times). recognized all the disks, but the entire system just slowed up when I tried to play a disk, or read it.
I then inserted into that drive a windows XP SP1 CD and booted from that drive.
The installation of Windows XP1 was entirely successful from that drive, it was flawless and fast.
Now my computer has 2 windows systems - XP1 and XP2 - but the dvd-rom doesn't work in any of them.
In XP1 it told me smth about readprocess memory only partial, and writeprocess memory partial.
All the disks are recognized, with their name and type.
The drive itself seems to be in working order, since I installed windows from it, but in DOS mode.
What the ***** is going on? could anyone please help?

HI,
MB: ASUS p4s800-mx , intel p4 3Ghz-HT CPU
I have the same problem (but different DVDROM).
I though it was a problem in the hardware itself, I had LG CDROM, which worked fine and suddenly it started giving me those "readprocess memory only partial, and writeprocess memory partial" popups.
so I took it back to the store and got me a new samsung sh-182 DVDrom but I keep getting those popups...
I removed the cdrom and reinstalled it from the Device Mgr,
I looked for drivers but found none. (it seems that the registry is not cleaned from "old" values (such as my old LG DVD) is there any key I can which would make the XP build all the device tree again? (in Win95 there was the Hardware\ENUM....) )
the only thing I can think about is that there are problem with Lower/UpperFilters on the CDROM (in the registry)
I susspect it because it all started after I used a disk-on-key I got, which I think installed a filter driver - pxHelp20.sys (www.sonic.com)
the DOK has 2 partitions - one which is free space for my use and one which is a (so far) ReadOnly partition which has comertials on it, it is mounted as a VirtualCdrom (very similar to DeamonTools) I so that the date of creation of the pxHelp20.sys file was the same time&date of the first use of the DOK.
Does it sound like a reasonable theory?
I'm also very close to re-installin from scratch....

found this in the MS help:
Product: Windows Operating System
Event ID: 11
Source: Cdrom
Version: 5.2
Symbolic Name: IO_ERR_CONTROLLER_ERROR
Message: The driver detected a controller error on %1.
Explanation:
This problem is typically caused by a failing cable that connects the drive to the computer.
User Action:
Replace the cable.
Would try to replace cable... and let u guys know if it worked.

I have a Asus P4C800-E Deluxe using XP Pro (SP2)
all drives working ok
then my DVD RW stopped reading DVD disks, writes fine but will not read DVD disks, just see them as blank or asks for a disk
ISO Buster will only see the disks as blank DVD media
The burnt disks can be read using a DVD rom player
I have changed IDE cables , even removed IDE drives and reinstalled windows
is it a Asus mobo thing ????

tried dvd drives on another machine, see DVD drives , disks and writes
even tried the cable across off my other machine
me thinks it is a mobo prob with the ide ports breaking down .. anyone else ???

I think I'm going to re-install my OS, I think there might be a problem in the registry - Low/High filters.

If you feel comfortable editing the registry, here are some steps:
Click the Start button, click Run. In the Open box, type regedit and then click OK.
Click the plus sign (+) next to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE.
Click the plus sign (+) next to SYSTEM.
Click the plus sign (+) next to CurrentControlSet.
Click the plus sign (+) next to Control.
Click the plus sign (+) next to Class.
Click {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}.
Once here click File in the upper left corner and choose: Export (this key)
Export to your Documents as a backup. If needed you can go back to this file and Import it back.
Then:
On the right hand side of the window, click UpperFilters.
Click Edit on the menu bar.
Click Delete, and then click OK.
On the right-hand side of the window, click LowerFilters.
Click Edit on the menu bar.
Click Delete, and then click OK.
Click File, and then click Exit. Restart the computer normally
