    Outlook Express

I have a problem with Outlook Express, being unable to connect with my ISP's mail server, being asked for user name and password each time I try. Upon filling the small box in it reappears again after a few moments requesting the same information. In response to my ISP, who maintains that there is nothing wrong with his server, I have deleted and reset all the account settings, disabled Windows Firewall and Norton Anti-virus and still the problem persists. I can read my email on the ISP's web site but cannot get anything through Outlook Express. Please can you help?

    Regards,

    Hi Tom

For your information, I have exactly the same problem. It started after I installed some incompatible RAM, and also had to re-register Windows (XP Pro).

The annoying thing is, I seem to remember a similar problem a year or so ago, but I'm blowed if I can recall how I rectified it.

If it comes back to me I'll let you know.

    regards

    Hi Tom

Solved my problem. Somewhere along the line it had changed servers, when I checked in properties in Outlook Express-Tools-Accounts-Mail-Properties.

I'm with Orange, so I changed it back to "pop.wanadoo.co.uk", and it immediatley connected. Don't know if this helps.

Thanks for your help Griffin, but I regret that it doesn't solve the problem. I've checked the account details again and all is correct. Any further ideas please.

    Regards,

    Tom Green.

    Under Properties > Servers

Have you checked the box: My server requires authentication > Settings...

Use same settings as my incoming mail server

On booting up, I found that the server shown in Tools-Mail-Properties had reverted the one that was refusing to accept the password, although I could change it back to the POP3 server name, which would last until the next timeI re-booted.

I was aware that my Macafee Security was about due for subscription renewal, but had not realised that my Firewall, although still shown as protecting, had expired about 10 days ago.

On renewing/upgrading yesterday. I've found that the Outlook Express problem appears to have disappeared, and I can log-on as before. Go Figure?

You might want to check your Firewall settings, as it looks as if that was causing my problem.

    Good Luck

Thanks Griffin, but I renewed Norton Anti-virus a few weeks ago and only have Windows Firewall.
I have tried to get onto the e-mail server with both disabled and enabled, each time ensuring that all account details are correct, but haven't had any success so far. Grateful for any further suggestions.

    Regards,

    Tom Green.
