linking to internet abroad
I'm going abroad for a short trip, and I'm taking a wi-fi Toshiba laptop with me.
I haven't used the laptop in a hotel, or in any wireless "public" area. I am also staying for a couple of days staying at someone's home.
I need to be able to access the internet from both locations.
Take the hotel first. How do I link to the internet using a wireless network supplied by the hotel. Am I right in assuming that when I switch on the laptop it will detect the wireless network, and ask me if I want to connect. Do hotels usually have any network password security.
In order to get internet access (dial-up) from the person's home, I assume I will have to connect via a local ISP (or use the person's own PC).
Any advice appreciated.
Regards,
Rannoch

the hotel may have security set up you're better off asking when you get there.
at your freinds house it may be easier using the PC that's already connected than install the software onto your machine.
